Well, the Christmas period is over, January is not yet gone, and already Dumnonika are getting active! In what has to be our earliest event of any year so far, our intrepid members dragged themselves onto Dartmoor this weekend just gone in freezing conditions to shoot a short film set in the Iron Age.
So, how did this madness come about? Well, back in 2012 while we were discussing filming for ITV's Britain's Secret Treasures, we were contacted by a young Film Production student looking to shoot his final project. At the time, things didn't work out, but recently Rupert made contact again. He and his friends had recently finished their Masters, and wanted to work with us to put together a portfolio piece for their show reel. On the condition that Dumnonika could use the film for promotional purposes, we agreed. Hilarity ensued.
I won't spoil the storyline, but suffice to say that Vinda was an absolute trooper, being the main character in the story, having to film far more than anyone else, largely scenes of trekking across open wilderness in cutting winds.
And so I leave you once again for now, hoping to return soon with news of awesome films, but also to continue with the shield making (both sides are now covered by deer rawhide, photos will follow!) In the meantime, I'd like to thank the film crew and Dumnonika for their cracking efforts this weekend. It was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the results! Here's to an excellent start for our fourth year!
